Segelclub Ochtrup Wettringen (SCOW)

Segelclub Ochtrup Wettringen (SCOW) is a sailing club in northern Münsterland with club grounds on Lake Haddorf between Ochtrup, Neuenkirchen and Wettringen. A clubhouse, youth house and jetty facilities form the core of the site around the roughly one-square-kilometre lake. Besides sailing training and club regattas, the summer festival, youth camp and the traditional Whitsun cruise to Heeg in the Netherlands are part of the programme. The youth section trains regularly in Optimist and 420 and prepares sailors for the youth sailing certificate and the inland sport boat licence under sail. In 2026 the club celebrates its 60th anniversary and hosts among other events the 8-Seen Regatta and the Varianta regatta on Lake Haddorf.

History

Segelclub Ochtrup Wettringen (SCOW) has existed for about 60 years and celebrates its anniversary year in 2026 with the annual general meeting, summer festival and club regattas on Lake Haddorf. For a long time Joachim Peschke shaped the club as chairman; in 2022 his 25 years of service were honoured before a change of leadership in 2023 brought Nico Tietmeyer to the helm. The club is part of the 8-Seen community and helped mark the 40th anniversary of the 8-Seen regattas in 2023. For decades the Whitsun cruise to Heeg in Friesland has been a fixed ritual; in 2025 the 50th anniversary of that gathering was celebrated. In parallel the club has run a boat rental on the lake for decades; in 2025 the Rohenkohl family's 40 years of commitment to the rental were honoured. Youth development with training, Optimist and 420 coaching, youth camp and exams for the youth sailing certificate and inland sport boat licence likewise shapes recent club history, as does public visibility such as a 2018 WDR television feature and an Instagram presence since 2023.
