Segelclub oberer Greifensee Maur
Segelclub oberer Greifensee Maur (SCoGM) is a sailing club on Lake Greifensee in the municipality of Maur in the canton of Zurich. The club has pier facilities at Schifflände Maur including the SCoGM pier, dry storage areas and an AWEL-approved mooring buoy. The programme covers social and competitive sailing from April to November, junior training in cooperation with Segelclub Schloss Greifensee, a seniors group and participation in the Greifensee championship. Since its founding in 1978 and the 1994 merger in Maur, the club with around 125 members has been a fixture of the Greifensee sailing scene.
History
Segelclub oberer Greifensee was founded in 1978 after a call in the “Drü-Egg” by enthusiastic sailors at Restaurant Sonne in Hinteregg. Its aims include camaraderie, youth development, cooperation with authorities on wet and dry berths, and racing. Soon after founding the club joined the cantonal and national sailing federations (ZSV and USY, today Swiss-Sailing). Since 1985 shoreline clean-ups from Mönchaltorf to Fällanden have taken place every two years in spring. Because of the Greifensee protection ordinance the club had to move its pier from Badi Egg to Maur in 1994 and merged there with the local sailing club into today’s Segelclub oberer Greifensee Maur. Today the club has about 125 members; almost every weekend from April to November features an event. Youth members train on Saturday afternoons with two to three Youth+Sport coaches and club boats. In 1998 the 20th anniversary was celebrated with a trip on Lake Zurich; in 2003 the 25th anniversary with a Rhine cruise. In 2004 the Greifensee clubs jointly commissioned a weather station and webcam. In 2006 the Greifensee sailing clubs formed the GM Greifensee championship; in 2007 the Pfäffikersee club joined. A seniors group meets on Wednesdays in good weather for barbecuing and sailing.
