Segel-Club Oevelgönne von 1901 e.V. (SCOe) is a traditional Hamburg sailing club on the River Elbe with its clubhouse at Antwerpenstrasse 19 in Hamburg-Waltershof. Founded on New Year's Day 1901 in Övelgönne, the club still combines camaraderie with recreational and racing sailing plus an active youth section. Club boats include Optimists, 420s, a Pirate dinghy, a youth wandering cutter and further training craft; juniors train twice weekly in summer, with theory classes in the clubhouse in winter. The programme covers cruising, cutter trips on the Elbe and the traditional race Round Pagensand. In its anniversary year 2026 the club celebrates 125 years and maintains a lively community through the club magazine Blinkfüer and youth work.
History
On New Year's Day 1901 seven sailing friends – Bernhard Schulz, Hermann Pohlmann, Albert Heinze, Georg Löffler, Arthur Weiß, Willi Ludwig and Martin Derner – met at Lokal Robert Fischer, Övelgönne No. 5, to found Segel-Club Oevelgönne von 1901 e.V.; the eighth friend Hugo Pohlmann overslept the founding ceremony. From the start the aim was mutual friendship, sticking together and helping one another whenever needed. That founding idea still shapes club philosophy: pitching in together, camaraderie and fostering recreational and racing sailing. Two world wars forced new beginnings, yet sailing comrades repeatedly took responsibility and developed club life. Club history is documented in a detailed chronicle from 1905 to 2001. For decades the club magazine Blinkfüer has informed members; according to the 125th-anniversary Festschrift for some 90 years. Key traditions include cutter sailing with the youth wandering cutter “Möwe von Köhlfleet”, Optimist sailing in the youth section and the traditional race “Rund um Pagensand”, with results also published for 2025. More recent milestones include the slipway over time, a “heart” transplant at the club in 2020, environmental awareness on the Elbe over five decades, the Blue Ribbon of the Lower Elbe 2008 and participation in the Helgoland–Edinburgh race 2017 with SY Atena. In 2026 SCOe celebrates 125 years (1901–2026) with a Festschrift and anniversary reception; the German Sailing Federation publicly accompanied the jubilee.

Active youth section for children and young people aged 6 to 18 with Optimist and 420 groups; summer training twice weekly, winter theory in the clubhouse.
