Segelclub Kronstorf (SCKT)
Segelclub Kronstorf (SCKT) is a family-friendly, socially active sailing club on an island in the Enns reservoir Thaling sailing area in the municipality of Kronstorf in Upper Austria, between Steyr and Enns near Linz. The club grounds operate from April to October and have been reachable via a floating bridge for several years; SCKT is the only sailing club in Austria located on an island. Members have access to club-owned sailboats, including two Optimists for juniors, and can sail with experienced members or join small races. Regattas on the reservoir take place several times a year with neighbouring clubs, alongside club days and social life. Since 2017 the club has been a licensed training centre of the Austrian Sailing Federation and offers annual theory and practical courses for the inland boat licence (BFA Binnen).
History
Segelclub Kronstorf was founded in 1972. Dedicated members built a sporting and socially active club. According to the statutes, its purpose is the non-profit promotion of sailing, youth development and social exchange among members and related clubs. It is Austria's only sailing club on an island, at the head of the roughly two-kilometre Enns reservoir Thaling, reachable for several years via a floating bridge. For the 50th anniversary in 2022 a commemorative publication appeared; about 250 guests reviewed five decades of beginnings and achievements. Since 2017 SCKT has been a licensed Austrian Sailing Federation training centre running annual BFA Binnen courses and exams on site. Several times a year regattas are held with other clubs on the reservoir, including season opening and closing races and, since 2024, a two-day regatta again. The grounds run seasonally from April to October; fitting out, laying up, midsummer celebrations and other social dates shape the club year. Today members keep an active club life on the island and welcome new members.
