Segelclub Gießen e.V.

Segelclub Gießen e.V. (SCG'84) is an active sailing club on Lake Dutenhofen in the Gießen/Wetzlar region. The club grounds with clubhouse and jetties sit directly on the lake and serve as the base for youth training, regattas and club cruises. For juniors the club provides Optimists, Lasers, 470s and RS Fevas; training is accompanied by a motorboat. Besides club championships and Aquila ranking regattas, the club offers taster sailing, flotilla cruises and SBF, SKS and radio courses. Since 2019 the club has trained with a DSV-licensed sailing instructor and maintains a lively community on this inland water.

History

Segelclub Gießen e.V. uses the abbreviation SCG'84 and is registered at the Gießen district court under VR 1451. The club grounds are on Lake Dutenhofen, where season openings, regattas, work parties and youth training take place. As early as 2017 and in following years the club completed SBF inland and sea as well as SKS courses with exams, at times via the Hessian examination board and later the Rhine-Moselle-Saar board. In 2018 the club hosted the club championship and for the first time two races of a nationwide Aquila ranking regatta on Lake Dutenhofen. Since 5 April 2019 Segelclub Gießen has trained with a German Sailing Federation licensed instructor after Stefan Zink, vice chair, passed sailing instructor licence A. In 2022 the SCG ran a flotilla cruise with four yachts from Flensburg into the Danish South Sea; 2025 brought a club trip to Friesland, skipper training in Lemmer, another Baltic flotilla and a Sardinia cruise. Club championships, Aquila ranking events, taster sailing and youth development continue to shape club life on Lake Dutenhofen.
