Segel Club Friedrichstadt e.V.
Segel Club Friedrichstadt e.V. (SCFr) is a sailing club founded in 1963 on the banks of the River Treene in the heart of the Dutch-style town of Friedrichstadt between the Eider and Treene in North Frisia. With about 102 adult and around 35 junior members, the club offers an approximately seven-kilometre river sailing area, 40 berths with a slipway, and a clubhouse with canteen, youth room and modern sanitary facilities. The youth section mainly trains in Optimist, Teeny and Pirat; each year the traditional Opti camp takes place, and the club hosts Opti regattas including the North Frisia district championship. A hallmark is the junior development work recognised by the DSV and the magazine segeln, together with well-known hospitality on Schleswig-Holstein's west coast.
History
Segel Club Friedrichstadt e.V. (SCFr) was founded in 1963 and is situated on the Treene in the picturesque Dutch-style town of Friedrichstadt between the Eider and Treene, just before Husum. From the outset the club combined Optimist juniors with cruising sailors and used the roughly seven-kilometre river sailing area plus quick access to the North and Baltic Seas. Over decades intensive junior coaching developed: young sailors compete in Optimist, Teeny and Pirat regattas as well as national and international championships. Famous is the eight-day Optimist dinghy sailing camp held for over 50 years, regularly attracting up to 80 young people aged 7 to 14 from various federal states; the 50th Opti camp was in 2023, and in 2026 the club invites to the 53rd. For exemplary junior work the SCFr was named Sailing Club of the Year 2000 by the DSV and the magazine segeln. On 30 September 2023 the club celebrated its 60th anniversary with welcoming speeches, honours and a festive programme. Today 102 adults and about 35 juniors belong to the club; at 40 berths with slipway, floating pontoons, power and water, plus a club building with sanitary facilities, visiting boats also find a place. Club life includes regattas, Friday Festmacher evenings, work parties, season opening and closing, and events such as Stand-up-Friedrichstadt on the Treene and canals.
