Segel-Club Goslar e.V.

Segel-Club Goslar e.V. is a family-oriented sailing club on the Okertalsperre reservoir in the Harz mountains, the highest sailing area in northern Germany. The club provides a slipway with winch, a clubhouse with lounge, kitchen and toilets, and a pier with 20 berths for dinghies and small trailerable cabin boats. The offer is especially aimed at families with children and includes sailing courses, youth boats such as Optimists and a Teeny, as well as camps on the club grounds. The focus is on enjoying watersports, relaxation and training young sailors rather than major regatta series. Since its founding in 1958 as a pier community, the club has grown into an active association with currently about 40 members.

History

Segel-Club Goslar e.V. was founded in 1958 at the then newly impounded Okertalsperre as a pier community. On 8 April 1968 the club was registered at the Goslar local court under register number 572. Initially only sailing comrades with their own boat could become members. The club is a member of the German Sailing Association and the Lower Saxony State Sports Federation. In the 1970s the club grew quickly; a second pier was acquired and the clubhouse was built. By the end of 2004 the club had 20 berths for dinghies and yachts for about 60 members in total. Boats can only be slipped via a winch system, so the area is suited mainly to dinghies and small trailerable cabin boats. The grounds are also good for swimming, outdoor games and small camping stays; the clubhouse seats up to 50 people and can be used for small celebrations. Several youth boats (Optimists and a Teeny), life jackets and a kayak are available. In July 2016 NDR visited with Hallo Niedersachsen and filmed a feature about sailing in the highest area in the north. Today the club has about 40 members, mostly families with children; competitions and regattas have not been the main focus in recent years, but rather watersport enjoyment, relaxation and training of young people and children.
