Segelclub Graben-Neudorf e.V.
Segelclub Graben-Neudorf e.V. (SCGN) is an active sailing club on a large quarry lake northwest of Graben-Neudorf, about 25 kilometres north of Karlsruhe. The grounds feature a jetty with water berths and a crane rated up to two tonnes, land storage, a clubhouse and covered storage for boats and gear; club boats include more than ten Optimists, three ILCA dinghies and one 420. The programme serves racing and recreational sailors of all ages: youth sailing in Opti, 420, ILCA and 29er, internal leisure and ranking regattas, try-out sailing and a sociable club life. Founded in 1975 and marking its 50th anniversary in 2025, the club is known beyond the region for hospitality and a lively community.
History
Segelclub Graben-Neudorf e.V. was founded in 1975 at today's quarry lake and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025 with neighbouring clubs and the municipality. In the decades after founding, the club moved through several sites and berths before settling at its current location, where a jetty with water berths and a crane (up to 2 t), land berths, clubhouse and covered boat storage were established. Youth and racing work grew in parallel: club boats in Optimist, ILCA and 420 support juniors; regular club leisure and ranking regattas include the Spargelcup and Junior's Euro Cup for Corsairs, the Opti/420 Erdbeer-Cup and the ILCA Südwestwind regatta. SCGN sailors also race away from home, for example at the Corsair regatta in Fischbach on Lake Constance and at the International German Championship of Corsairs on Lake Wannsee. Today a mix of children, juniors, active adults and older sailors shapes club life; alongside sport, sociability, the summer festival, open days and youth events remain central.
