History
Segel-Club-Crefeld e.V. is based on Lake Elfrath in Krefeld and is a member of the German Sailing Association. The sailing area covers about 50 hectares of water with a roughly 2.3-kilometre race course. The club offers water and land berths, a winter storage hall nearby and club boats for members without their own boat. At the club’s 50th anniversary a new Laser was christened “KRaser”; the renewal was supported by the “Krefeld macht Sport” funding programme. Since 1996 the sailing working group of the Bischöfliche Maria-Montessori-Gesamtschule Krefeld has been linked with the club and sails on Lake Elfrath. After the coronavirus restrictions, the annual general meeting on 15 September 2021 marked a new leadership phase for the club. As of 2026 the youth section comprises around 70 children and teenagers and trains on Optimist, Open Skiff, RS Feva, 420 and ILCA. The club hosts regattas including the season opening race for the Krefeld city championship and the SCCR Summer Cup as a race for the NRW state youth championship. The sailing school teaches among other qualifications the inland and coastal recreational craft licences and the coastal yachtmaster certificate SKS. In 2026 SCCR became the first club in Krefeld to receive the certificate of admission to the quality alliance for protection against sexualised and interpersonal violence in sport.
