SegelClub Schalchen Chiemsee e.V.
SegelClub Schalchen Chiemsee e.V. (SCSC) is a traditional sailing club on the northwestern shore of Lake Chiemsee and ranks among the oldest sailing clubs on Bavaria's largest lake. Founded on 27 March 1971, the club offers local dinghy and cabin sailors mooring buoys, an almost 300-square-metre shore strip and club-owned boats including 470er and Laser. Regular club regattas, sailor get-togethers and barbecue evenings shape the sporting and social programme for members of all experience levels. A distinctive feature is the deliberately unpretentious club culture with its home at Schalchenhof and a long tradition of club championships and the SCHALCHEN Regatta.
History
SegelClub Schalchen Chiemsee e.V. (SCSC) was founded on 27 March 1971 at Gasthof Schalchenhof. It was preceded by about two years of preparation, initiated by landlord Jakob Strasser after recreational use of Lake Chiemsee and its shores had become increasingly difficult. The founding members – often called “Kiesgrubler”, “Wohnwagler” or guests staying at Schalchen – came mainly from Rosenheim, Mühldorf and Munich and had their base around Schalchenhof. At the founding meeting the club had 21 members; by July 1971 membership had already reached 50. The aim was to remain a small club without aristocratic pretensions, yet with serious grassroots sporting goals. Only one year after founding, the club organised a DSV A-licence course together with USC Munich, with 24 successful participants. Four members themselves obtained the DSV examiner licence for the A-schein, enabling a further course in summer 1974 with 36 successful sailors. From the start, members took part in major Chiemsee regattas such as the CYC 24-hour race and the YCU Chiemsee Round and achieved leading places. Besides internal races for the club championship, SCSC held a long-distance lake regatta more than 24 times, later known as the SCHALCHEN Regatta, with up to 30 boats of all classes. In addition there have been adventure races such as Segeln Fatal, races with hooks and eyes, search races, handicap and fun races, often combined with a sailor get-together or barbecue at Schalchenhof. The club has no clubhouse of its own but has had its home at Schalchenhof since founding for the annual general meeting, year-end celebration and social gatherings. Club-owned boats were acquired for youth work; members, especially juniors, currently have access to one Laser and two 470er boats. Today SCSC is among the oldest sailing clubs on Lake Chiemsee and is the fifth-oldest sailing club on the lake.

Regular club regattas and club championship, season opening and closing races, adventure and fun races, sailor get-togethers, barbecue evenings, grounds clean-ups and a year-end celebration with prize-giving.
Youth section
Active youth work with club-owned boats (Laser and two 470er) for training, racing and instruction; reduced membership for juniors until the end of training.
