Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil
The Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil (SVT) was founded in 1936 and is one of the longest-established sailing clubs on Lake Zurich. With more than 300 members across active, junior and passive categories, it is one of the largest clubs in the region. The club facilities between Ludretikon lido and Thalwil pier include a clubhouse, a large mooring field, dry berths for dinghies and a contingent of marina berths at Farbsteig harbour, in which the SVT holds a stake as a co-initiator. Annual sailing courses are offered for young people in Optimist and 420 classes. Sailing pools with H-Boot, Onyx, Joker and J/70 allow members without their own boat to go cruising and racing. The annual programme includes cruising and regatta events such as the Esse Cup, the Eisbären Trophy and weekly SunsetRace training regattas every Friday evening.
History
The Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil (SVT) was founded on 15 December 1936 when ten enthusiastic sailors from Thalwil and the surrounding area held a founding meeting and elected Willy Utzinger as president, Ernst Marthaler jun. as treasurer and Hans Soland as secretary. The first general meeting took place on 8 March 1936 in Horgen; the SVT is the fourth sailing club on Lake Zurich. The junior section was founded in 1951 and the Clubfloss Nord inaugurated. The dry berth for dinghies was built 1962–1966, and the clubhouse on 14 concrete piles was completed in June 1969. In 1980 the Bootshafen Farbsteig AG was founded with 24% SVT ownership; the harbour opened in 1981. In 1996 the regatta pool with the Joker was established; the first website followed in 1997. In 2006 one of the first webcams on Lake Zurich went live. Yannick Brauchli competed at the 2012 London Olympics in the 470 class. The clubhouse was extended 2012–2013. The SVT won the Zürichsee Cup for the first time in 2015. Today the club has over 300 members.
