The Segler-Vereinigung Wuppertal e.V. (SVWu) is a large sailing club with around 300 members on its home waters at the Bevertalsperre reservoir in the Bergisches Land region, centrally located on the Käfernberg peninsula in Hückeswagen. The club grounds of approximately 9,000 square metres feature a bright clubhouse (Helmut-Keunecke-Haus), two club pontoons, a crane and slipway, boat house, workshop, training rooms and ample parking. The club competes in the Segelbundesliga with its own J/70 boats, hosts regattas in various classes and provides 27 club-owned boats and dinghies for hire. The youth section with around 50 to 60 children and teenagers offers training, sailing camps, an open sailing meet-up and school sailing in cooperation with regional schools. Founded on 28 March 1971 as the Bevertalsperre section and now an NRW regional performance centre, the SVWu combines demanding regatta sailing on the challenging Bever waters with an active club community.

History
In 1971, several dinghy sailors split from Yachtclub Wuppertal Hitdorf to form the Bevertalsperre section. Under future chairman Fritz Buntenbeck, the Segler-Vereinigung-Wuppertal (SVWu) was founded on 28 March 1971 in Hückeswagen-Käfernberg on the Bevertalsperre. Initially there was only open land; a caravan served as the regatta office and large tents were hired for events. From 1977 to 1980 the clubhouse was built as a weather shelter within a landscape protection area; the site grew from 3,990 m² to 8,177 m². In 1991, under Helmut Keunecke, an recognised sailing base with clubhouse and covered regatta start barge was created, largely by members' own work. At founding there were 50 adults and 3 juniors; by 1996 there were 226 adults and 56 juniors. Today about 300 people belong to the club, 50 to 60 in the youth section. A boat house followed in 2000, a crane and slipway in 2003; two pontoons for 36 boats, 100 land berths and 27 club boats belong to the facility. The roof was first renovated in 2004; fire protection measures in 2009/2010 led to full clubhouse status as the Helmut-Keunecke-Haus with overnight stays. In 2006 the Sailing – a Sport for All initiative started with local schools. In 2010 the club became an NRW regional performance centre. A workshop building was completed in 2018, a terrace and multi-purpose room in 2022, mesh Wi-Fi in 2023. The SVWu has sailed two J/70s in the Segelbundesliga for years; in 2025 the team led by team manager Kirsten Roos reached the first division.
