Segler-Vereinigung Oberrieden
The Segler-Vereinigung Oberrieden (SVO) is a compact sailing club on Lake Zurich with almost 120 members, making it one of the smaller clubs on the lake. The clubhouse is located at the harbour in Oberrieden next to the lido and has been housed since 1987 in the former concrete beam factory on Seestrasse. The club focuses on cruising, social events and the joy of sailing with club dinghies, pool boats, a Laser, Laser Vago and club yachts operated on a boat-sharing basis, plus four SUP boards for light-wind days. Training for school pupils was offered for many years; today the SVO works closely with neighbouring municipalities and supports their youth sailing programmes. The club is a member of the Zurich Lake Sailing Association and Swiss Sailing, and hosts club regattas, opening-of-season sailing, Friday evening sails and other traditional club events.
History
The Segler-Vereinigung Oberrieden was founded in 1978. At the founding meeting in June 1978, more than 50 of the 202 boat owners took part; almost all attendees joined the club spontaneously. Robert Köhli became the first president, P. Fierz vice-president, F. Andersen actuary and Mrs V. Hurter treasurer; D. Monnier took charge of the youth group. Initial membership fees were set at 40 francs for active members, 60 francs for couples and 15 francs for juniors and passive members; the entry fee was 60 francs. An anonymous donor gave 500 francs as start-up capital. The club represented boat owners' interests towards authorities and the public, particularly regarding cantonal lakeshore planning. Since 1987 the SVO has been based in the old concrete factory at Seestrasse 53; the municipality provided the premises. The cosy club room is regularly used for club events, training, family celebrations and other occasions and was extended through members' dedicated work. Besides sporting and social events, the SVO offered two club dinghies (a 420 and a Laser); school training ran for many years. Presidents after founding: Röbi Köhli (1978–1985), Köbi Hurter (1985–1991), Finn Andersen (1991–1996), Istvan Csajka (1996–1999), Luzi Hartmann (1999–2006), Christian Hurter (2006–2016) and Paul Röösli from 2016. Honorary members include Röbi Köhli, Charly Hunziker sen., Urs and Bea Abegg and Bruno Schumacher. Today the Segler-Vereinigung Oberrieden works closely with neighbouring municipalities, supports their youth work and is a member of the Zurich Lake Sailing Association and Swiss Sailing.
