Svinø Bådelaug
Svinø Bådelaug is the local sailing and harbour association south of Middelfart on Ellebæk Vig in Gamborg Fjord on Funen, Denmark. The harbour offers around 100 berths with electricity and water on the piers as well as a clubhouse with kitchen, toilets, showers and barbecue areas; the sanitary facilities were thoroughly renovated in 2011. The club welcomes members and visiting sailors and places strong emphasis on social life, seasonal club events and outings; children have a swing and a crabbing bridge with equipment. Founded in 1973, the club expanded the harbour in 1975 and built the clubhouse in the following years; today it has around 160 members and is known for spectacular sunsets over the fjord.
History
Svinø Bådelaug was founded on 27 March 1973 at the constitutive general meeting, when annual fees for active and passive members were already set. After extensive coordination with the authorities, the harbour was expanded: on 5 May 1975 the press reported that Svinø had become the largest harbour on western Funen; the official inauguration took place on 31 May. The new harbour area provided space for almost 100 boats, the expansion cost around 40,000 kroner, and the next stage was to be a clubhouse with toilets. The clubhouse was designed by architect Vagn Møller of Middelfart Sejlklub; construction costs were estimated at under 90,000 kroner. Although the club is in a protected area, planning permission was granted; at the time there was a waiting list of about 50 boats and plans for an additional pier. On 27 January 1977 the chairman proudly presented the building permit for the new clubhouse. The sanitary facilities were extensively renovated in 2011. Today Svinø Bådelaug operates around 100 berths with electricity and water, a clubhouse with kitchen and barbecue area, and seasonal activities such as launching, flag raising, harbour festival and fishing competition, and has about 160 members.
