Segelverein SV78 Wendisch Rietz e.V. is an active sailing club at the southern end of Lake Scharmützel in Wendisch Rietz, directly adjacent to the holiday resort. The club grounds feature three boat piers with berths for members and guests, a boathouse at Am Schilfhaus 3, a mast-setting aid and straightforward launching facilities for smaller boats. As a base for the cruiser division and a member of the German Sailing Association, the Brandenburg State Sports Federation, the Oder-Spree District Sports Federation and the Association of Brandenburg Sailors, the club organises the traditional long-distance regatta for the "Blue Ribbon of Lake Scharmützel" and competes successfully in the VBS cruising competition. Visitors from other sailing areas are welcome; when berths are available, guests may stay overnight, and DSV members receive their first night free of charge. The annual programme includes opening and closing of the season sails, club championships, a summer festival and numerous regatta dates on Lake Scharmützel.
History
Segelverein SV78 Wendisch Rietz e.V. has established itself as a fixed part of the regional sailing scene at the southern end of Lake Scharmützel and serves as a base for the cruiser division. The club is a member of the German Sailing Association, the Brandenburg State Sports Federation, the Oder-Spree District Sports Federation and the Association of Brandenburg Sailors. A defining feature of SV78 is hosting the long-distance regatta for the "Blue Ribbon of Lake Scharmützel", with documented results since at least 2013. In the VBS cruising competition, the club has repeatedly achieved top placings, including several first places between 2008 and 2024. The club's own championships have also been evaluated and archived for many years. The club grounds with three piers, boathouse and harbour at the Wendisch Rietz holiday resort have long formed the basis for seasonal berths, season opening and closing sails and the annual summer festival. SV78 maintains close ties to the Lake Scharmützel sailing area and cooperates with other regional clubs on numerous events.
