Steinberger Yacht-Club e.V.
The Steinberger Yacht-Club e.V. (SYC87) is the sailing club on Lake Steinberger See, the largest lake in Eastern Bavaria, in Steinberg am See in the Upper Palatinate. The club runs its own harbour with jetties, a clubhouse and a boat crane; guest crane use can be booked via the events calendar. Alongside yardstick regattas such as the lake championship, coffee regattas, summer and autumn regattas, the club offers active youth work for children and teenagers aged 7 to 16 with training on Optimists and Laser/ILCA. Club history dates back to 1987 and is reflected in festivities, work parties and a long series of home regattas on the lake.
History
Steinberger Yacht-Club e.V. trades as SYC87 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2007 and its 25th in 2012, placing the founding year in 1987. Over the decades the club expanded its facilities on Lake Steinberger See: the photo gallery documents the boat-crane construction site in 2006 and the expansion of jetties 1 to 4 in 2011. For many years a dedicated regatta calendar has shaped club life with the lake championship, coffee regattas, summer and autumn regattas and the Holzkugel regatta for youth classes. Historic class highlights include the FD Steinberger Krug, the Laser Oberpfalz CUP and participation in the sailing Bundesliga / DSL cup with J/70. Today clubhouse festivities, work parties, youth sailing weeks and yardstick racing combine tradition with current racing on Eastern Bavaria's largest lake.
