Ruder- und Kanu-Club Wörth e.V.
Ruder- und Kanu-Club Wörth e.V. (RKC Wörth) is the largest sailing club of the Rhineland-Palatinate sailing association and is located at Landeshafen Wörth on the Rhine at the French border. The club grounds include about 80 shore berths, 60 water berths on two floating pontoons, a separate dinghy pier, slipway, crane up to five tonnes, boat hall and clubhouse. Club boats in Optimist, ILCA, 420 and 470 classes are primarily for the youth section. As a DSV-recognised training club it offers inland and coastal pleasure craft licence courses plus SKS, regular youth training and a full regatta programme. Founded in 1964 as a rowing and canoe club, it evolved into a sailing club and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 with around 300 active members.
History
Ruder- und Kanu-Club Wörth e.V. was founded in 1964 for rowers and canoeists. Over the years members’ interest shifted to sailing; the sport changed, the club name remained. Through many member successes the RKC gained recognition beyond the region. In 2014 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary and, with around 300 active members, is the largest sailing club of the Rhineland-Palatinate sailing association. The sailing area is Landeshafen Wörth at the southern tip of Rhineland-Palatinate on the French border, on the Rhine opposite Karlsruhe in the PAMINA Rhine park. The sailing water stretches about two kilometres in length and 200 to 800 metres in width. The harbour is shared with a container terminal and the Palm paper mill; the Mercedes-Benz truck plant borders the harbour grounds. International dinghy classes are sailed, with open keelboats and small yachts at the pontoons. The club is recognised by the German Sailing Association as a training club and regularly hosts regattas such as the Silberschäkelregatta, Finn Wörth Cup and Landeshafentrophy. In 2023 SWR covered the club in Landesschau Rhineland-Palatinate under the title “Freedom on the Rhine – On a sailboat in autumn”.
