Regattaclub Zwenkau e.V.
Regattaclub Zwenkau e.V. is a competition-oriented sailing club on Lake Zwenkau in the Leipzig New Lake District. Founded on 1 December 2014, the club is based at Zwenkau Harbour on Hafenstrasse 1 and uses the marina with boat crane, slipway and more than 200 wet berths. The programme includes fleets in J/70, Dyas, Dragon and ILCA as well as junior training in Optimist, race training and Thursday evening keelboat racing. The club hosts national championships and ranking events, including the German International Championships for ILCA and Dyas, and is a member of DSV, SVS and LSB. Within only ten years the club has grown from a founding project into a leading venue for major regattas on the largest water body in the Leipzig New Lake District.
History
On 1 December 2014 eleven enthusiasts founded Regattaclub Zwenkau e.V. to promote competition-oriented sailing and water sports on Lake Zwenkau. From the base at Zwenkau Harbour they aimed to establish regular training, host regattas and organise education for coaches, race officers and umpires. The long-term goal was to become the leading venue for national ranking events and championships in the Leipzig New Lake District. In 2019 the Laser/ILCA group “LKS by RCZ” was created with competition-oriented training for juniors and adults and charter boats for members. The club built fleets in J/70, Dyas and Dragon and became established in the German Sailing League scene; in 2021 and 2022 Regattaclub Zwenkau won the Central German Club Championship on J/70. It also hosted major events such as ranking regattas for Flying Dutchman and Finn, the 2023 Korsar Euro Cup and German International Championships for Dyas and ILCA. In its tenth anniversary year 2024 the club again hosted the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 IDM with more than 130 boats and international participation. Franziska Volkmann later took over as president and continues to lead the club with further board members.
