Real Club Náutico de Castellón
Real Club Náutico de Castellón is a traditional Spanish yacht club in the port of Castelló de la Plana on the Escollera de Poniente. With around 93 years of history, the club promotes nautical sports and offers a marina with 275 berths, a large boatyard of nearly 9,000 m², plus restaurant and club facilities. The programme includes dinghy sailing, cruiser sailing, canoeing, dragon boat, kayak polo, fishing and a multisport school with summer courses and sea baptisms. Regular regattas such as Regata Costa Azahar and Trofeo Magdalena shape the sporting calendar. Since becoming a Real Club and completing the current clubhouse, the club has been a key hub of Castellón’s sailing scene.
History
Around 1930, young swimming enthusiasts practised in Castellón’s harbour on the breakwater near Playa del Pinar, often risking being chased away by the harbour watchman. In 1932 they obtained permission from the Junta de Obras del Puerto to form a club with enclosed grounds and a first wooden hut, which had to be removable if the port required it. This officially became Club Náutico de Castellón, hosting the first modest sporting events. About thirty years later the wooden shed was replaced by a then-modern building to expand into more sports. In 2000 construction of the current social building began; years later it was inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I and the club was renamed Real Club Náutico de Castellón. Today the offer covers dinghy and cruiser sailing, canoeing, kayak polo, dragon boat, a nautical sports school, sea baptisms and social as well as inclusive events. The club aims to grow in members and events and to open the nautical world to as many people as possible.
