Paderborner Yacht Club e.V.

Paderborner Yacht Club e.V. (PBYC) is a traditional sailing club on Lake Lippesee in Paderborn-Sande, founded in 1970. On its roughly one-hectare lakeside grounds, dinghy and cruising sailors find water and shore berths, a club crane, a slipway and boat storage in the Opti house and sail port. Clubhouse, training room, workshop, office and renovated sanitary facilities complete the site. Youth training, Optimist coaching and midweek regatta practice shape the sailing programme; teams race in 420, 470 and ILCA 7. Opening and closing sails, summer festivals and club regattas make the club a fixture of the regional sailing scene.

History

Paderborner Yacht Club e.V. was founded in 1970 and, with more than 300 members, ranks among Paderborn’s most established sports clubs. Its home waters are Lake Lippesee in Paderborn-Sande, created decades ago by gravel extraction and now the region’s main sailing and surfing venue. The roughly one-hectare club grounds at the edge of Sande towards Sennelager offer numerous water and shore berths, a club crane rated up to two tonnes and a slipway. Club boats are stored in the Opti house and sail port; facilities also include a workshop, training room, office, renovated sanitary facilities, seating with barbecue areas, a play corner, a treehouse, a covered terrace and the clubhouse. Club life features opening and closing sails with flag parade, summer festival, St Nicholas gatherings and season regattas such as multi-hour and yardstick events. Youth work and training are core pillars: three volunteer coaches support the youth group in 420, 470 and Laser; Opti adventure weekends prepare sailors for the DSV junior certificate. Sport boat licences for inland and coastal waters as well as SKS and pyrotechnics certificates are also offered. Over the decades the PBYC has become a central hub for water sports on Lake Lippesee.
