Lausitzer Segelclub – Bärwalder See e.V.
Lausitzer Segelclub Bärwalder See e.V. is a sailing club on Lake Bärwalder See in the Lusatia region, based at harbour address Am Hafen 4 in Boxberg/Klitten. After relocating from Lake Knappensee, the club started afresh at its new home and now operates a clubhouse inaugurated in 2015 with a boat hall, function room, terrace and roof terrace overlooking the lake. Active boat classes range from Optimist and Open Bic through 420er and 29er to Ixylon and O-Jolle for leisure and racing. Monthly casual broad-sport regattas, an annual two-day traditional regatta with a sailors' ball, and youth events such as district children's and youth games and the club youth camp shape club life at the harbour managed by the municipality of Boxberg.
History
Every club experiences larger and smaller changes from time to time. Moving an entire sailing club with all its members and equipment roughly 20 kilometres to another lake is virtually a fresh start – and this challenge was mastered. The fate of Lusatia both helped and hurt the club: lignite mining created the lakes on which sailing became possible, yet renewed stabilisation measures at Lake Knappensee once again deprived the club of its home. At Lake Bärwalder See the Lausitzer Segelclub was warmly welcomed by fellow water-sports enthusiasts and dared this new beginning. Consistently renaming the club, it bid farewell to its old home and became Lausitzer Segelclub Bärwalder See e.V. instead of Lausitzer Segelclub Knappensee e.V. Club history is therefore divided into the period at Lake Knappensee and the period at Lake Bärwalder See. A major milestone at the new location was construction of the clubhouse: the two-storey building with modern sanitary facilities, a large hall with open kitchen and terrace, roof terrace with lake views, boat hall and well-kept club grounds with boat and car parking spaces was inaugurated on 25 July 2015. Overall project management was entrusted to Heike Schulze, chartered engineer.
