Lohjan Purjehtijat ry

Lohjan Purjehtijat ry is the official sailing club of the city of Lohja in Finland, with its base and clubhouse (LP-Maja) at Nuottatie 2 on Lake Lohja. The club offers berths for about ten motor or sailing boats, dinghy spaces in the yard, and a sea harbour with roughly 30 to 40 buoy moorings at Korssundet (Inkoo/Fagervik). The programme includes youth and adult sailing courses, Optari and Laser training groups, and a lakeside sauna with a winter ice hole at the clubhouse. Children and juniors train in level groups by age and experience and may enter cadet competitions; adults and young sailors can also learn on Laser and Melges 24 boats. Founded on 23 April 1963, the club also organises club regattas such as the 60th anniversary race and receives support from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.

History

Lohjan Purjehtijat ry was founded on 23 April 1963. The club is based in the city of Lohja; its area of activity covers Lohja and the surrounding region. It runs its base with the LP-Maja on Nuottatie at Lake Lohja and also maintains buoy moorings at the sea harbour of Korssundet in Inkoo. Over the decades the association has established itself as a sailing club with youth training, Optari and Laser coaching and adult course programmes. Documented history sections cover the 1960s/1970s, 1980s and 1990s as well as the periods 2000–2003, 2004–2008 and from 2009 onwards, including a clubhouse project. In 2023 the club celebrated its 60th anniversary with a club regatta in the Aurlahden area, open from Optimist dinghies to keelboats. Club activities are supported among other things by Seuratuki funding from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.
