Liegegemeinschaft Cuxhaven Fährhafen e.V.
Liegegemeinschaft Cuxhaven Fährhafen e.V. has operated a tide-independent pontoon marina in the historic Amerikahafen directly behind Steubenhöft in Cuxhaven since 2001. The marina offers berths with water and shore power, a clubhouse with sanitary facilities, a mast crane, Wi-Fi and free bicycle hire for guests. Pleasure craft and yachts up to a maximum of 12 metres in length or 10 tonnes displacement find a sheltered berth here, also as a stopover on the way to the Baltic Sea. Guest berths are plentiful and marked with green signs; the harbour is closed to pleasure craft from 1 November to 31 March. The community emerged in 1983 from boaters seeking berths and has been a registered association at the Tostedt district court since 1993.
History
In 1982 the ferry harbour in Cuxhaven was opened to pleasure craft; many boaters seeking berths contacted the then operator, the Lower Saxony Harbour Authority. In 1983 the first spokesperson was elected to represent the community towards the harbour authority – thus the Liegegemeinschaft Cuxhaven Fährhafen was born. In 1984 the community elected its permanent representatives and adopted statutes recognised by the harbour authority. In 1991 the LCF community took responsibility for the harbour and chose flag 7 from the international code of signals as its burgee, because on Lake Constance flag 7 is hoisted when seeking a guest berth in a foreign harbour. In 1992 an extraordinary general meeting resolved to register the association. In 1993 registration at the Tostedt district court as Liegegemeinschaft Cuxhaven Fährhafen e.V. followed. In 1998 the LCF took over the water area and facilities in the ferry harbour for a fixed rent from the Lower Saxony Harbour Authority. In 1999 the general meeting decided to relocate; a usage agreement was concluded for the water area in Amerikahafen and for premises at Woltmanstraße 8. In 2001 the newly built club-owned harbour facility in Amerikahafen and the newly renovated clubhouse could be occupied.
