Lundeborg Sejlklub
Lundeborg Sejlklub is the official sailing club in the coastal village of Lundeborg on Funen in Denmark and a member of Dansk Sejlunion as well as Dansk Kano og Kajakforbund. The club uses Lundeborg Marina and runs a clubhouse built by members from two containers with a shared roof terrace; in 2005 the building was raised onto piles and fitted with a gear room, workshop, toilet and shower. The club fleet includes Optimist dinghies, a Europe dinghy, support boats and a RIB from 2020, and there is also an active kayak section. The programme covers Wednesday evening races, family and cruising sailing, youth development from age seven, and joint club trips such as to the island of Birkholm. Since its founding in 1983, shared boatbuilding, racing and a lively club community have shaped life at the southern Funen coast.
History
Lundeborg Sejlklub held its founding general meeting on 16 November 1983 at Lundeborg Kro. The meeting began after the England–Denmark football international on television; Denmark won 1–0 at Wembley for the first time since Olympic bronze in 1948, with a goal by Allan Simonsen. In that atmosphere Kjeld Bundgaard Pedersen (Oure) was elected chairman, Kis Henriksen (Lundeborg) vice-chair, Kenneth Arndrup (Lundeborg) treasurer, Palle Palsgaard (Gudme) secretary and Michael Vest Hansen as a further board member. A proposal to name the club Gudme Sejlklub because Lundeborg then belonged to Gudme municipality was rejected by locals; the name Lundeborg Sejlklub prevailed. In the first 25 years, family and adult sailing trips, races and the joint building of the clubhouse, dinghy slipway and mast shed shaped club life. In 2005 the container clubhouse was raised onto piles and the lower floor fitted with gear space, toilet and shower. At the 25th anniversary in 2008, then chairman Kenneth Arndrup stressed recruiting younger members, coach training and renewing the club fleet. The club remains a member of Dansk Sejlunion and Dansk Kano og Kajakforbund and still organises trips such as to Birkholm and Wednesday evening races off Lundeborg harbour.
