Kanu-Club Hagen 1953 e.V.
Kanu-Club Hagen 1953 e.V. sits on the south shore of Lake Hengsteysee right on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path and combines canoeing, stand-up paddling and sailing at one site. Sailing has been actively practised at KC Hagen since 1968; the pier in front of the grounds offers berths for members' boats plus winter storage in a secured outdoor area. Members without their own boat can use club boats including a Conger dinghy, a Laser and a 420 for youth and beginner training; traditional spring and autumn sail-outs invite guests to join. The clubhouse with boathouse, terrace, fitness room and sauna, plus an active canoe youth section and lively club life, shape the lakeside community.
History
Kanu-Club Hagen 1953 e.V. is registered as VR1007 and is based at Seestraße 2b in Hagen on Lake Hengsteysee. The club grew into a versatile water-sports association focused on kayaking and canoeing, complemented by stand-up paddling and sailing. Sailing has been practised since 1968, with berths at the pier and winter storage outdoors. Over the years the club built a boathouse, clubhouse with terrace, youth room and indoor facilities including gym and sauna. In 2019 members rebuilt the pier after flooding. SUP boards have been available since the 2018 paddling season. The canoe youth trains weekly on the lake and in winter at the Lennebad; in 2024 the youth received a construction trailer with municipal funding. In summer 2025 the canoe polo section was re-founded. The sailing fleet was expanded with a used 420 dinghy for youth and beginner training. Traditional highlights include sail-outs, the summer festival, work parties, kale walks and Nikolaus and Christmas paddling trips.
