History

Johannesfreds Båtklubb (JBK) was founded in May 1951 on the shore of Ulvsundasjön in Johannesfred, Bromma. The founders are documented in historical photographs from the founding year. Harbour and clubhouse lie at the mouth of the Bällstaån into Ulvsundasjön at the southern tip of Johannesfred. The concrete floating pontoon was installed in 2003 and provides berths for just over 40 boats. The club yard is on Margretelundsvägen near Ulvsunda Castle, about one kilometre from the harbour. The fleet consists of around fifty motor and sailing vessels, six of wood and 44 of fibreglass. The club belongs to Saltsjön-Mälarens Båtförening (SMBF) and Båtunionen; active members receive the magazine Båtliv. There are active members with a boat and berth, and passive members (co-owners, family or supporting members). Active members complete a two-year qualifying period with nautical competence and berth use. Shared work, fellowship and bridge watch duty shape club life. Historic trips, such as a snipa outing in autumn 2007 to the outer archipelago (including Röder), are part of club tradition.
