Jollekappseglarna Västerås
Jollekappseglarna Västerås (JKV) is a non-profit dinghy racing club on Öster Mälarstrand in Västerås on Lake Mälaren. The club has a dedicated club area with clubhouse, about 30 Optimist dinghies for members without their own boat, plus several crew boats and motorboats for training and racing. The programme mainly targets young people and families and includes sailing schools, training groups from beginner to competition level, and year-round activities on and off the water. Founded in 1973, JKV has produced many successful dinghy sailors, including Olympic achievements, and regularly hosts major national events such as the Junior SM with around 500 starters.
History
Jollekappseglarna Västerås (JKV) was founded in 1973 and has since focused on dinghy racing with strong youth development. Over the decades the club has trained many successful dinghy sailors; members often highlight Marit Söderström's silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. According to the club, international top performances continue with each new generation of youth. JKV is among Sweden's leading dinghy event organisers and typically hosts at least one major national event per year, including the recurring Junior SM with about 500 starting sailors. On Öster Mälarstrand in Västerås the club maintains a club area with clubhouse, a fleet of about 30 Optimists, crew boats and several motorboats for training and regattas. Summer courses for beginners and intermediates, year-round training groups and activities such as barbecues, camps and winter water sports shape club life. Guiding values are joy, community and responsibility; the vision is to be one of Sweden's best dinghy clubs.
