Husumer Segler-Verein von 1928 e.V. (HSrV) is a traditional sailing club in the outer harbour of Husum at the end of the Heverstrom in the North Frisian Wadden Sea. The club grounds in the Rödemiser Priel comprise two boat halls, a clubhouse with pantry and berths for nearly 50 boats. Youth training takes place in an Optimist group and a youth group with Optimists and dinghies; the club also offers courses for the junior sailing certificate, sport sailing certificate, official recreational boat licence and VHF radio. Regatta sailing shapes club life with the traditional Heverregatta and the Friesen-Cup. Founded in 1928, the club today has around 150 members and about 50 boats.
History
Private sailing already developed in the North Frisian Wadden Sea in the 1920s. In 1927 nine sailing enthusiasts in Husum decided to form the Husumer Segler-Verein. The founding meeting was held on 5 October 1928 at the Club Hotel; Dr. Oskar Stoppel became the first chairman. In 1929 a permanent berth in the Rödemiser Priel was requested. In the 1930s the cruiser “Lis” took part in Helgoland Week and sailed to Scandinavia. After the war the club was revived on 9 August 1946 with 13 people under Hans Andresen; by the end of 1947 there were 86 members. In 1949 the first slipway and simple piers were built and the first regatta to Modersloch was held. In the 1950s and 1960s the club grew, expanded sheds and clubhouse and temporarily ran bases in Friedrichstadt and Wyk that later became independent. In 1970 an Optimist was purchased and the youth group rebuilt. From 1976 to 1978 new facilities were built after pile foundations and voluntary work and inaugurated at Easter 1978 for the 50th anniversary. In 1980, 79 boats entered the Heverregatta. In 1981 the Husum shanty choir was founded. In 1994 the old shed was demolished and a new boat hall completed; in 1995 the club received a Sailhorse keel dinghy. Anniversary regattas marked the 70th anniversary in 1998 and the 75th in 2003. In 2004 Hargen Johannsen became chairman. Today the HSrV is based in the Rödemiser Priel with about 150 members and around 50 boats and continues to organise the Heverregatta and active youth work.
