Hiidenveden Purjehtijat (HiiPu)

Hiidenveden Purjehtijat (HiiPu) is the water sports section of Nummelan Tarmo ry on Lake Hiidenvesi near Nummela in Finland. The club began with windsurfing and sailing and today also offers paddling, canoe polo, SUP, church boat rowing and windsurfing alongside sailing activities. On the shore at Maaniitulahti there is a club house with sauna and meeting rooms plus an equipment shed with numerous kayaks, canoes, SUP boards and sailing gear including an Optimist and a Terhi 375 Sail. In summer, weekly member evenings, Thursday paddling trips and polo training take place; Meloja 1 to Meloja 3 courses, youth programmes and club excursions complete the offering. HiiPu also maintains several laavu rest sites around Lake Hiidenvesi and invites newcomers to try the sports on Tuesday evenings.

History

Hiidenveden Purjehtijat (HiiPu) operates as a section of Nummelan Tarmo ry on Lake Hiidenvesi near Nummela. The club's history started with windsurfing and sailing; over time paddling, SUP, church boat rowing and canoe polo were added. Today the focus is mainly on recreational and touring paddling and canoe polo, while sailing, windsurfing and other water sports remain part of the programme. The club runs a Seuramaja on the Maaniitulahti shore with sauna and meeting facilities, an equipment shed with extensive gear, and maintains several laavu rest sites around Hiidenvesi built or cared for by HiiPu, including Puumanni (built 2014–2015) and Rysätarha. Annual traditions include church boat trips to the ruins of St Birgitta's church and trial sessions at the Wuosisatamarkkinat fair. The association is registered in Finland under number 11122-36 and runs courses following the Meloja system of the Finnish Canoeing and Rowing Federation.
