Hamburger Segel-Club e.V.

Hamburger Segel-Club e.V. has been one of Hamburg's most renowned sailing clubs since 1892, located on Gurlitt Island on the Outer Alster in the heart of the city. The club operates the largest harbour on Hamburg's Outer Alster with 178 berths, a clubhouse with catering, and its own fleet including J/70, J/22, Zugvogel, O-Jolle and Conger boats. The programme ranges from youth and inclusive sailing to the weekly Kangaroo Regatta and international events such as Alsterglocke, Hamburg Summer Classics and Championship of Champions. Experienced sailors, beginners and families find training, club boats and an active community directly on the water.

History

Hamburger Segel-Club looks back on a tradition dating to 1892, making it one of Hamburg's oldest sailing clubs. Since its founding, the club has brought generations of sailors together on the Outer Alster and grown into one of the region's largest regatta organisers. The club hosts German, European and world championships and is the venue for the annual Championship of Champions under the patronage of the German Sailing Association. Signature events include Alsterglocke, established in 1984, Hamburg Summer Classics for classic wooden boats, and the Kangaroo Regatta sailed every Wednesday on the Alster since 1992. The Glückstadt Regatta has been co-hosted with the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein since 1948. The club also plays a major role in Nordseewoche as organiser and host. In recent decades the programme has expanded to include youth sailing, the German Sailing Bundesliga on J/70 boats, inclusive sailing with partners such as Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V., and cruising on the Elbe and Baltic Sea. The clubhouse on Gurlitt Island and the largest Alster harbour with 178 berths remain the centre of club life today.
