Klub Żeglarski "Halny"

Klub Żeglarski Halny is the largest sailing club of its kind in southern Poland, with over 170 members and its own marina on Lake Żywieckie in Zarzecze. The more than 100-metre pier can accommodate nearly 100 yachts and is one of the largest facilities in the region. Club amenities include a boathouse, training room, equipment rental, 22 Omega yachts, cabin yachts and various water sports craft. As a licensed Polish Sailing Association school, the club trains around 150 people each year and hosts national regattas, including the Polish Cup in the Optimist class. Founded in 1967, Halny is the oldest active sailing club in the Podbeskidzie region.

History

Klub Żeglarski Halny was founded in 1967 by a small group of sailing enthusiasts as a PTTK branch and was the first publicly accessible sailing club in the Podbeskidzie region. When the club was established, the founders looked for a suitable base just as the new reservoir at Tresna was being filled. They chose a picturesque bay on the western shore of the new lake in Zarzecze. The beginnings were modest – one Omega and an old shed – but the club grew rapidly. In 1994 Halny obtained legal personality and separated from the PTTK organisation to become an independent, self-financing club. On 12 May 2022 the club celebrated its 55th anniversary and remains the oldest active sailing club in Podbeskidzie. Over the decades the marina developed into the largest on Lake Żywieckie, while youth training and the organisation of national regattas became pillars of club life.
