Fahrtenseglergemeinschaft Pforzheim e.V.
The Fahrtenseglergemeinschaft Pforzheim e.V. (FSG Pforzheim) is a non-profit sailing club founded in 1989 with around 160 members. On its own grounds at the Goldkanal near Steinmauern and Rastatt, the club offers inland sailing with five club-owned dinghies and two Optimists; nevertheless, the main focus of activities is cruising on seas worldwide. In recent years, club life has concentrated on promoting youth work, while regular trips are organised for members and course participants. Pub evenings, themed talks from October to March at the Osterfeld Kulturhaus, and further training on seamanship and navigation complement the programme. The club originated from courses at the Segelschule und Motorbootschule Pforzheim, with which it still works closely.
History
The Fahrtenseglergemeinschaft Pforzheim e.V. (FSG Pforzheim) was founded in 1989 from courses at the Segelschule und Motorbootschule Pforzheim, with which the club still cooperates closely today. According to its statutes (as of 17 September 2021), the non-profit club promotes sailing, especially cruising and dinghy sailing; the registered seat is Pforzheim. On club-owned grounds at the south-eastern end of the Goldkanal, a gravel pit lake connected to the Rhine near Steinmauern and Rastatt, young people are introduced to sailing. The club owns five dinghies and two Optimists; members can use the boats by arrangement for a small usage fee. In parallel, the main focus is on sea sailing: skippers and members sail on almost all the world's oceans, including the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Indian Ocean, South Pacific, Baltic Sea and occasionally Lake Constance. Exchange about past trips takes place at pub evenings, training events and other gatherings. From October to March the club regularly holds themed evenings on every second Wednesday at the Osterfeld Kulturhaus, followed by informal gatherings at the Comedia bar; these evenings are also open to interested non-members. For many years the club has supported the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) through regular donations. In June 2023 the club website was renewed to improve communication among members. In March 2025 Alex Möller was appointed honorary member. According to the statutes, club assets would pass to the DGzRS upon dissolution.
