Werratalsee Segelclub 1969 Eschwege e.V.

The Werratalsee Segelclub 1969 Eschwege e.V. (WSSC) has been a fixture of the Hessian sailing scene since its founding and is located in the north-east of Eschwege directly on the shore of Lake Werratalsee, one of Hesse's finest sailing areas. The club grounds include a cosy clubhouse above the marina, two floating piers with a total of 63 water berths, land berths with a slipway for dinghies, a 1.5-tonne crane for keelboats and an adjacent boatyard for repairs and storage. The club offers leisure and regatta sailing, dedicated youth work with experienced coaches and weekly Friday training from 15:30, plus club boats in the Optimist, Laser, 420 and 470 classes for beginners and juniors. Regular events such as Walpurgis Night, summer festival and lake festival, in-house spring and summer regattas, and an active club life with a high proportion of young sailors make the WSSC a welcoming club for members and guests.

History

The Werratalsee Segelclub 1969 Eschwege e.V., WSSC for short, was founded in 1969 and has since been a fixture for sailors in Hesse. Active club life includes both leisure sailing and committed, successful regatta sailing; alongside competitive sport, numerous activities of sailing enthusiasts shape the entire year. Since the club was founded, youth development has been a core part of its work: children and young people can gain their first experiences on the water and learn the basic skills of a sailor. The training group includes children aged 6 to 15; training takes place once a week and covers practice, theory, boat care and sport. Throughout the sailing season, training is geared towards the sports badge, and in winter months special sessions such as capsize drills, life-jacket tests and swimming take place at the Espada swimming pool in Eschwege. The clubhouse and piers are in the north-east of Eschwege on Lake Werratalsee; the site has two floating piers with 63 water berths, land berths with slipway, a crane for keelboats and a boatyard. The WSSC runs a spring and a summer regatta and maintains a varied festival programme including Walpurgis Night, summer festival, lake festival and Christmas celebrations, organised by a five-member club festival committee. Today the club thrives on a good mix of young and old, with ambitious youth work and experienced coaches at its heart.
