Dreieich Segelclub Langen e.V. (DSCL) is one of the largest sailing clubs in Hesse, with over 500 members and its own sailing area on Lake Langen in the Rhine-Main region. Since sailing activities began in 1969, the club has offered regular regattas, youth development and sailing training on more than one million square metres of water. The club grounds on the northern shore feature a clubhouse, an elevated wooden terrace with a year-round tent and mooring facilities. Classes sailed include Optimist, Finn-Dinghy, ILCA classes, 420er, 470er, Korsar and Schwertzugvogel. Juniors train on Fridays during the season, and the club successfully provides training for boating licences (SBF inland/sea) as well as the SKS coastal skipper certificate.

History

Sailing activities at Dreieich Segelclub Langen e.V. began in 1969 on Lake Langen, when the then much smaller gravel pit became attractive for water sports and especially sailing in the Rhine-Main region due to its central location and good water quality. Over the years, not only did the water area grow to more than 1,000,000 square metres, but membership also increased. With over 500 members today, DSCL is one of the largest sailing clubs in Hesse with its own sailing area, club boats and corresponding club grounds. The central location of Lake Langen near the Frankfurt motorway junction and Frankfurt Rhine-Main Airport makes the area attractive for regatta sailors from across Germany. From the very beginning, organising and running regattas was one of the club's main activities; many sailors have been coming for over 40 years for the sporting challenge as well as the renowned hospitality and catering. Lake extensions and clearings for further gravel extraction have significantly improved the possibilities for laying out attractive regatta courses, and further gravel mining will increase the water area even more. In addition to the existing terrace area, a fully elevated wooden terrace was created in recent years due to high water levels, and part of the terrace was covered with a year-round tent. Alongside regatta activities, the club supports its youth section with regular junior and youth training, youth camps and a continuously renewed youth boat fleet. For many years DSCL has successfully offered the opportunity to obtain all sailing certificates, including SBF inland, SBF sea and SKS, with practical training on the club's own boats such as LIS and Ixylon. In 1993 the DSCL shanty choir was also founded, giving older sailors a connection to the club after active sailing.
