Donau-Yacht-Club-Deggendorf e.V.

History

It was no coincidence that led to the founding of the Donau-Yacht-Club-Deggendorf e.V. After individual pontoons had to be removed from the water over the winter months to make room for commercial shipping in the sheltered harbour, the idea arose to join together as a club. Following many preliminary discussions, the founding members met on 13 January 1973 at the „Hafenstüberl“ inn in Deggendorf. Those present were informed of the planning status and the results of negotiations with the WSA Regensburg. Everyone agreed to promote water and motor boating as a family sport that encourages leisure and protects the environment, in a non-profit manner. Work began immediately and the approximately 90-metre pontoon facility with 25 berths was already moored in Deggendorf harbour in spring 1973. The DYCD is particularly proud of having built the entire pontoon facility, including in its present form, through members' own efforts. More and more skippers gradually applied for membership in the DYCD. Since its founding, the DYCD has maintained and expanded contacts with other clubs through joint boat trips and event visits, including in neighbouring Austria. Following application, the DYCD was admitted to the German Motor Yacht Association in 1975 and recognised as a base of the association in 1976. Since 1990 the club has also been a member of the Bavarian Motor Yacht Association. For decades the club was based in the sheltered harbour of Deggendorf and offered guests, visitors from around the world and members a pontoon facility with 25 berths, toilet, drinks vending machine, outdoor shower with warm water, seating, electricity and fresh water. Due to the termination of all clubs by the Waterways and Shipping Office in 2024 and the resulting clearance of the harbour basin by 30 October 2024, the DYCD and four other clubs had to leave the harbour irrevocably. Mooring has no longer been possible since then, and the club no longer has a home for water sports.
