History

Duisburger Yacht-Club e.V. (DUYC) was founded in 1967 through the merger of Segelclub Montan and Duisburger Yacht-Club, both established in 1964. The aim was to build a new clubhouse at the Sechs-Seen-Platte with combined forces. Founding members ensured neither club would feel disadvantaged, so the new club received dual leadership with a president and a chairman, adopting one club's name and the other's burgee. Carmen and Willi Cording designed the burgee, showing Duisburg's city colours, a blue field for water and six stars for the Sechs-Seen-Platte. After the merger, DUYC was immediately NRW's fourth-largest sailing club. The new clubhouse project moved quickly: ground-breaking on 12 August 1968, foundation stone on 15 September 1968, topping-out on 23 November 1968 and official opening on 14 September 1969. Members invested money and 20,000 hours of labour. Today the club has more than 450 members, including around 90 young sailors, and 200 berths on land and water at Lake Masuren.
