Düsseldorfer Segler-Verein e.V.
The Düsseldorfer Segler-Verein e.V. is a family-oriented sailing club on the Rhine in Düsseldorf-Volmerswerth at river kilometre 735. Founded in 1920 as the Volmerswerther Wassersport Vereinigung, the club offers a harbour with pontoon berths for around 30 boats up to 12 m in length, land berths for dinghies, a slipway, a winch launch facility and a spacious clubhouse beyond the Rhine embankment. The club fleet includes Zugvogel and Pirat dinghies; youth boats regularly take part in the Rhine Week regatta. The sailing area in the Rhine bend suits dinghies as well as larger sailing and motor yachts with around 1.50 m draft; transient guests are welcome. Racing on the Rhine, cruising, season opening events and communal club activities shape life in this club of around 120 members, which celebrated its centenary in 2020.
History
The Düsseldorfer Segler-Verein was founded in the summer of 1920 as the Volmerswerther Wassersport Vereinigung and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020. As a registered association at the Düsseldorf register of associations (register number 4348) and a member of the German Sailing Association (NW004), the club promotes sailing and motorboating on the Rhine. The sports boat harbour on the right bank at river kilometre 735.1 has existed since the 1920s, as historical photos in the gallery and commemorative publications show. In the publication for the 75th anniversary, the club describes itself as a group of individualists united by racing on the Rhine, cruising in the Netherlands and further afield, motorboat trips on rivers and canals, and shared club life. The DSV has repeatedly taken part in the Rhine Week and has also hosted it, for example on the club's 75th anniversary. Commemorative publications for the 10th, 30th, 50th, 75th and 100th anniversaries document the club's development from its founders to the present day. The club grounds with harbour, slipway, winch, winter storage on the upper level and the clubhouse beyond the dyke have been expanded and maintained by members on their own initiative over decades. Twice in its 100-year history the Rhine has shown the forces it can unleash; use of the harbour and grounds always depends on water levels. Today the club has slightly more than 100 to around 120 members and welcomes new applicants with or without a boat.
