History

Club Náutico San Telmo states that its founding goals were to promote nautical sports and support tourism development around the Miño River in the Tui area. According to the history section, the club was founded in 1997 by Álvaro Hermida Rodríguez, José Joaquín García Rodríguez, José Ignacio Alonso Piñeiro, Miguel González Troncoso, Manuel Gómez Cruces, and José Amor Varela, with the founding date recorded as 16 September 1997. At the same time, the club refers to an older local legacy, noting that a previous nautical club with the same name had already been active in Tui in the 1960s. In the following years, activities such as water skiing, sailing, motor boating, canoeing, river tours, and nautical events were expanded, with emphasis on environmentally respectful development along the river. A key infrastructure milestone came in February 2005, when the club took over management of the Puerto Deportivo de Tui, a marina with modern pontoons, water and electricity connections, and capacity for about 100 berths. The club also reports strong membership growth, approaching 300 members, and outlines further future projects for continued sporting and organizational development.
