Club Náutico Marítimo de Benalmádena
Club Náutico Marítimo de Benalmádena is a non-profit water sports club on the Costa del Sol, founded in 1976 and recognised as an entity of public utility since 2022. The club facilities are located on Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano between Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena and Malapesquera beach, offering a boat house, light sailing fleet, crane, slipway, gymnasium and a beach section. The programme includes light sailing, windsurfing, paddle surfing, kayaking, rowing, nautical training and an active regatta and youth programme through the Escuela de Vela and the Escuela Náutica Municipal. The club ranks among the leading sailing clubs in Andalusia and regularly hosts ORC regattas such as the Senda Azul league and the Trofeo Regularidad.
History
Club Náutico Marítimo de Benalmádena was founded on 31 July 1976 in the back room of the pharmacy on Avenida Blas Infante in Arroyo de la Miel; the first president was Miguel Ángel Samaniego Picatoste. The following year, under president Lorenzo Valderrama, the statutes were approved by the Delegación Nacional de Educación Física y Deportes and registered in the Registro Nacional de Clubes y Sociedades Deportivas under number 9191. Efforts then began to find a location for the club headquarters in Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena; in the 1980s Club Los Delfines was absorbed and the Comisión Municipal Permanente agreed to transfer four premises under Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano. From 1985, plans were made for a dedicated club building; the foundation stone was laid in 1998 and the building on Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano between the marina and Malapesquera beach was inaugurated in 2002 by president Pedro González and mayor Enrique Bolín. From 2006 under president Jorge Román, the statutes were amended, a new club crest was introduced and the club achieved first place in the Málaga club ranking and third in Andalusia in the Federación Andaluza de Vela Grupo Oro. Skipper Javier Banderas won the Copa del Rey de Vela in Palma de Mallorca in 2009 and 2010 under the club flag. José Antonio Macías became president in 2011; the club again ranked first in the province and third in Andalusia, and its summer camps became a model for other clubs in Málaga. In 2019 Puerto Deportivo and the club launched the Escuela Náutica Municipal with light sailing and multi-activity programmes; Laura Moleón Robillard became the club's first female president in 2019 and the first female president of a nautical club in Andalusia. In 2020 and 2021 the club again topped the Federación Andaluza de Vela ranking; Roberto Aguilar Medina became Spanish Optimist champion in 2021, a windsurf team was added and Alejandro Rivera won the European Senior Raceboard championship. In August 2023 Chule Fernández was elected the club's new president.
