Club Náutico Guadalmena
Club Náutico Guadalmena is a sports and recreation club on the Guadalmena Reservoir in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, regarded as the first water sports club on inland waters in the region. Founded in spring 1970 under the patronage of the Real Club Mediterráneo de Málaga, the club offers floating pontoons, moorings and a paved slipway for boat launching. Its facilities include a clubhouse with restaurant, bar, fireplace and air conditioning, a large terrace overlooking the reservoir, a 25 by 13 metre swimming pool with lawns and a sun deck, plus changing rooms and storage. The club hosts an annual sailing week, inter-club meetings, fishing competitions and motorboat regattas at Andalusian and national level, and won the Spanish championship in the T-850 motorboat category in 2001.
History
Club Náutico Guadalmena was founded in spring 1970 on the Guadalmena Reservoir and is thought to be the first water sports club on inland waters in Andalusia. It is located in the northeast of the province of Jaén, on the southern foothills of the Sierra Morena, near the Sierra de Segura and Sierra de Alcaraz. On 26 April 1970 an organising committee was formed under Manuel Ardoy Medina, a physician who had served during the dam's construction, and the club was established under the patronage of the Real Club Mediterráneo de Málaga. From September 1970 club life began with the first Andalusian championship motorboat regattas, starting with about forty members and one floating pontoon. In its first year the club grew to 264 founding members, the statutory maximum. The club was registered in numerous disciplines: motorboating, sailing, rowing, canoeing, water skiing, swimming, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and archery. Thirty-six motorboat regattas were held, including rounds of the Spanish championship and international competitions such as the Trofeo Ibérico. In 2001 the club became Spanish champion in the T-850 motorboat category. Over 700 families have been members throughout its history, from regions across Spain and even from France.
