Club Nàutic Bétulo
Club Nàutic Bétulo is a long-established watersports club on the Mediterranean in Badalona on the Passeig Marítim promenade. Founded around 1972, the club offers sailing, windsurfing, wingfoil, stand-up paddle, kayaking and competitive rowing, as well as sea rowing and recreational rowing. Facilities include a sailing school run in partnership with Anywhere Water Sports, storage for sails and windsurf boards, kayaks, changing rooms, a gym, a swimming pool and a social hall. The club philosophy emphasises inclusion, respect for nature and quality training for all ages. Historically the club was strong in dinghy sailing and organised Catalan championships and international regattas. Today the Escola de Vela nurtures young sailors and offers courses, training and competition teams across several water sports.
History
Club Nàutic Bétulo was founded around 1972 in Badalona, initially at the Confraria de Pescadors on Carrer del Carme 55. Under the first commodore Ròmul Ampolla the club joined the Federació Catalana de Vela and aimed to build a marina. After the initial project failed, the club moved its sporting activities to the former Banys Maricel on the beach. The club owns a possibly Roman anchor donated by Joaquim Costa Durich, Patró Major of the Confraria de Pescadors. In the 1979-1980 season, under a new board, the club focused on dinghy sailing and achieved success in Optimist, Star, 420, 470, Patins and TDV classes. During this period it organised numerous Catalan championships and the European Star Cup, and hosted Spanish championships and the prestigious Trofeu Festes de Maig. A major milestone was creating the Escola de Vela, initially supported by the town council and later recognised internationally as Escola de Vela Catalana. Since 2016 the club has developed its sea rowing section and in 2016 took part in the 2nd International Sea Rowing Open in Barcelona. Since 2020 Anywhere Water Sports has run the club's nautical sports activities.
