Club Náutico Albatros
Club Náutico Albatros is a small nautical club located in the partial nature reserve of the Ría de Villaviciosa in Asturias, Spain. The facilities include a social building with bar, restaurant, tea room and terrace, as well as changing rooms, storage sheds, a jetty, swimming pools and a sports area with a natural grass football pitch and tennis courts. The sailing school offers courses for beginners and advanced sailors with certified instructors; classes include Optimist and ILCA. The annual programme features summer camps, dinghy courses, regattas on the estuary and a wide range of water sports such as paddle surfing and kayaking. Since its founding in 1965, the club has combined water sports, camaraderie and a family-oriented club life on the Asturian coast.
History
In 1965, a group of visionary sailors and water sports enthusiasts founded Club Náutico Albatros to bring together families and friends around nautical sport. From the outset, friendship, camaraderie, effort, sport, companionship and understanding shaped club life and kept its doors open. Over the decades, the club became a fixture on the Ría de Villaviciosa: in the kitchens run by Ramón and Berta, Corsino and Mariela, or Antonio Rilla, hospitality with a smile marked many years of club life. Avelino and Angelines maintained the club and also looked after the younger members. Sailing lessons with instructors such as Juan and Guillermo Zugazabeitia, Fran Arce and Pepe Teleña "Pepin" took place mornings or afternoons depending on the tide, with theory and practice, regatta trips across Asturias and the club's own events on the majestic Ría de Villaviciosa. Besides sailing, many used the estuary for kayaking and paddle boarding; there was once a small beach and the children's pool was on the football pitch. Countless families, parents, grandparents and friends helped rig, transport and care for boats. Club life included youth Saturdays, mountain excursions, cultural exhibitions, concerts, regatta camps, summer colonies and swimming lessons. Today's generations aim to keep this course so that one day their children may steer the "Albatros".
