Club de Mar de Vilanova i la Geltrú
Club de Mar Vilanova i la Geltrú is a non-profit watersports club founded in 2010 at Rambla del Port in the port of Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia. This member-run club promotes light sailing from the beach, especially Patí Català, windsurfing and catamaran sailing. Its location on Moll de Ponent, sheltered from easterly storms, is particularly suited to beginners and regular training. Members use boat storage, a warehouse, a terrace, paddle-surf boards and reduced parking rates right on the beach in a relaxed, family-friendly setting. Regattas, autumn training, sea baptism programmes for young people and the club's link to Patí Català history – a 1942 regatta in Vilanova shaped the unified boat design – define active club life on the Mediterranean.
History
The origins of Club de Mar Vilanova i la Geltrú date back to 2009, when a small group of nautical enthusiasts held their first meetings to found a light sailing club in the city. The club was officially constituted on 15 January 2010 and inaugurated on 3 July 2011; the official opening on 7 July 2011 included a regatta and speeches by Gerard Delmás, Gerard Esteva, Damià Calvet and Mayor Neus Lloveras, with over 150 guests and around 30 boats taking part. In 2011 the club joined the Federació Catalana de Vela and was registered in the Catalan sports register under number 14433. Members built the hangar, boat storage and infrastructure largely by themselves, including the ALUX-WHEELS V2.0 transport system and a hangar assembled by members. In 2012 the club celebrated its first anniversary with the Regata Primer Aniversario; founder and president Gerard Delmás was honoured. The club prepared for the 2014 Spanish Patí de Vela Championship, organised sea baptisms for secondary school pupils and regular autumn training. Gerard Delmás finished third at the 67th Spanish Patí a Vela Championship in 2010 and took part in the Volta a Menorca. In 2016 the club won a ten-year concession for varada area E, enabling expansion towards the sea. The 2016 assembly confirmed solid finances, an amicable separation from Club Inuit and the start of new building projects. The club sees itself as a self-managed community with open board meetings, transparent assembly minutes and strong member involvement in growing light sailing at Vilanova beach.
