Historie
Club Locarno is a non-profit club run entirely by member volunteers in Vancouver, based at the Jericho Sailing Centre on the south side of English Bay. The club is funded solely by membership fees, and members vote on all significant decisions. It offers access to shared fleets for sailing, kayaking, surfski, rowing, SUP and windsurfing, including foiling craft such as the Waszp and wingfoiling equipment. Members must be at least 15 years old and contribute volunteer hours to operate the club, which keeps membership fees affordable. Since 2019 the club has used the Slack app for casual communications among its fleets. The Jericho Sailing Centre compound reopened to members on May 16, 2020 after COVID-19 closures, with adapted training and checkout protocols. Fleet investments in recent years include Echo Sport rowing shells arriving in June 2024 and an OarBoard SUP Rower joining the rowing fleet in early 2025. The sailing fleet has grown to include modern training dinghies, Lasers, Tasars, an RS500, a Waszp foiling skiff and multiple Nacra catamarans used in Jericho's Tuesday and Sunday racing series. Social activities such as season openers, summer regattas, BBQs and Christmas parties bring members together across all fleets. For the 2026-2027 season the club opened registration to new members again, offering Discover Locarno orientation sessions with fleet tours at the Jericho Sailing Centre.
