Circolo della Vela Bari
Circolo della Vela Bari is an established sailing club in Bari on the Adriatic coast of Apulia, operating as an Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica. The club maintains two locations: the administrative headquarters "Margherita" in Piazza IV Novembre and the nautical base "Al Molo Borbonico" in the port of Bari with pontoons on the Lungomare. The nautical section offers sailing courses, regatta activities and competitive sailing in classes including Optimist, 29er, 420er and Hobie Cat. The youth department with the "Scuola dei Talenti" is among Italy's leading Optimist teams and achieved bronze at the Italian Optimist Team Championship. Club life includes summer sailing courses, social events on the pontoons and partnerships with international yacht clubs.
History
Circolo della Vela Bari is an established sailing organisation in Bari with its administrative seat in Piazza IV Novembre and its nautical base at Molo Borbonico in the port. In September 2019, on delegation from the Federazione Italiana Vela, the club hosted the Italian youth double-handed championships in Bari, welcoming around 700 athletes and support staff in classes including 29er, 420, Hobie Cat, Hobie Dragoon, L'Equipe Evolution and 555 FIV. The opening ceremony took place on the club pontoons and the prize-giving on the Terrazza del Fortino Sant'Antonio. In subsequent years the Optimist youth section developed into one of Italy's leading junior squads. The Optimist team repeatedly achieved success at zonal and national championships, qualified athletes for Italian and international titles, and completed the missing major national podium with bronze at the 2026 Italian Optimist Team Championship in Mandello del Lario. The club invests in young sailors through the Scuola dei Talenti and maintains partnerships with numerous international yacht clubs.
