History

Circolo Velico Torrette was founded by 13 founding members who on 25 July 2003 in San Costanzo at Il Grottino established a non-profit association to promote knowledge, spread and practice of sailing, diving and water sports. After founding and appointing the first board of directors, work to find and set up an operational base began as early as the 2004 season despite considerable difficulties. In 2005 the first nautical base was created with changing rooms, office and sail storage in a residential module provided by the regional Civil Protection, which the club had joined; volunteers support navigation off the base and emergency interventions on request from the Ancona Civil Protection Department. In 2006 the first club regatta, the Regata della Polenta, was held and has since become a key season event during the Sagra della Polenta in San Costanzo in July. In 2008 the current nautical base was completed: a fully functional building of about 50 square metres with office, sail storage, toilets and a large veranda. That year the Campionato Sociale was introduced, a series of Sunday club regattas with a final ranking for dinghies and catamarans. The first sailing courses started in 2009 with over 30 participants; in 2010 the club obtained FIV affiliation and federation recognition for its courses, growing from 13 founders to about 80 members. Beyond sport, socio-cultural activities enrich club life and the club works to protect the marine environment in the spirit of good seamanship.
