CCS Regionalgruppe Basel
The CCS Basel Regional Group is the Basel branch of the Cruising Club of Switzerland, bringing together people passionate about ocean yachting on sailing and motor yachts. Based in Basel, the club offers monthly regular evenings, Rhine-side social gatherings (Hock am Rhy), courses at its own training centre on St. Jakobs-Strasse, and training, youth and adventure voyages in both sunny and challenging waters. As an official examination centre of the Swiss Maritime Navigation Office in Basel, the group delivers high-quality courses for the ocean certificate and is recognised as a competence centre for safety at sea with ISAF- and Swiss Sailing-certified safety training. Young people aged 15 to 25 are supported through subsidised youth voyages, and each summer the club organises a freshwater day on a Swiss lake.
History
The Basel Regional Group of the Cruising Club of Switzerland (CCS) is a confessionally and politically neutral regional group of the CCS based in Basel under the CCS statutes. Its purpose includes promoting yachting at sea and in Switzerland, training yachtsmen and yachtswomen, fostering camaraderie and nautical traditions, youth development in yachting, and organising meetings, yachting events and courses. The very first CCS courses were also held in Basel, establishing a long tradition of high-quality training and further education with consistently strong examination results. The Basel group is commissioned by the Swiss Maritime Navigation Office in Basel as an official examination centre for theoretical tests for the ocean certificate; the CCS has issued more than 15,000 ocean certificates nationwide. Many CCS courses were created or significantly developed by Basel group members. As one of the few regional groups, Basel can offer Swiss safety training certified by ISAF and Swiss Sailing that exceeds ISAF requirements. The training voyage in Saint-Malo complements theoretical training in the tidal waters of Brittany. The current statutes were adopted by the general assembly on 15 November 2024; the financial year runs from 1 October to 30 September.
