Cospudener Yacht Club Markkleeberg e.V.

The Cospudener Yacht Club Markkleeberg e.V. (CYCM) is a sailing club on Lake Cospuden south of Leipzig in Markkleeberg, formed in May 2017 through the merger of the Cospudener Yacht Club (founded 1998) and the Yacht Club Markkleeberg (founded 1998). The diverse community of sailors from Markkleeberg, Leipzig and the surrounding area sails on Lake Cospuden and has a clubhouse at Pier 1 harbour, moorings and six club boats available for hire against a usage fee. The programme ranges from beginner sailing to regatta sport in classes such as Optimist, 420, 470, ILCA, Kielzugvogel, Laser Bahia and Ixylon; three youth training groups and weekly Friday leisure sailing shape the season. The club organises opening and closing sails, the Blue Ribbon of Lake Cospuden, autumn regattas such as the season finale and Saunacup, and since 2024 has supported inclusive sailing on the lake as part of a cross-club initiative.

History

The Cospudener Yacht Club Markkleeberg e.V. (CYCM) was formed in May 2017 through the merger of the Cospudener Yacht Club e.V. (CYC) and the Yacht Club Markkleeberg e.V. (YC-M). The Cospudener Yacht Club was founded in April 1998 and registered with the German Sailing Association under number SC030; the Yacht Club Markkleeberg was also founded in 1998 and registered under SC032. Both clubs belonged to the Saxony Sailing Association (SVS) and the sports federation. As CYCM, the sailing community joined forces to improve conditions for their shared passion on Lake Cospuden and in the region. The club has a base with a clubhouse and moorings on Lake Cospuden in Markkleeberg and remains registered with the DSV as SC030. Traditional events such as Friday leisure sailing (every Friday during the sailing season for many years), opening and closing sails on Lake Cospuden, the Central German Sailing Week with the Blue Ribbon Cospuden, and autumn regattas such as the season finale (Ixylon and Flying Dutchman) and Saunacup (Contender, 505 and Varianta 18) shape club life. Active youth work with Optimist and 420 training, nationwide regatta participation, and since 2024 a cross-club initiative for inclusive sailing on Lake Cospuden, supported by the Turning Point Foundation, are central priorities. The board includes Burkhard Maess as chairman and other board members; Helfried Haupt serves as youth officer on the board.
