Circolo della Vela Marciana Marina is the official sailing club in Marciana Marina on Elba and has served since the early 1970s as a nautical hub for sport, community, and maritime life. The club manages around 220 berths for members, guests, and boats in transit, provides mooring assistance on VHF channel 9, and offers on-site infrastructure with office services, garden areas, a bar, and storage facilities with repair support. Its sports programme includes a permanent sailing school, regattas, offshore cruises, and training formats for children, teenagers, and adults, including activity on Optimist and 420 boats. The club also shapes the local sailing area through co-organization of events such as Elbable and other regatta formats, linking sporting activity with the town’s maritime tradition.
History
Circolo della Vela Marciana Marina grew out of preparatory meetings held in 1972 and 1973, when local enthusiasts, encouraged by the municipal administration, decided to establish a nautical club. During its early years, the club focused mainly on teaching sailing and building a stable training structure. In 1985, under President Italo Samorè, the board launched a determined plan to bring major sailing and offshore events to Marciana Marina. Over the following decades, the club hosted many national and international championships, including 420 and J24 class regattas, the 2.4mR world championship event, and recurring S&S Swan Rendez-Vous editions. At the same time, the association strengthened its broader maritime profile and local rowing presence, including victory in the Palio Remiero dell’Elba. For its 25th anniversary in 1998, the club issued a commemorative postcard and a special postal cancellation. Today, CVMM remains a key sailing institution on Elba, combining long-term sporting continuity with regional maritime identity.
