Berliner Segler-Verein 1907 e.V.
Berliner Segler-Verein 1907 e.V. is a sailing club on the Großer Wannsee in Berlin and promotes sailing as both recreational and competitive sport. The club offers a pier with berths for 29 boats up to eight metres in length, a slipway for smaller boats and a listed clubhouse in the Alsen villa colony. The youth section provides Optimist training with club-owned Opti dinghies, weekly coaching from April to November and participation in local and regional regattas. Guests are welcome; vacant berths are allocated by the board according to a waiting list. The present club was formed on 9 March 2011 through the merger of Havel-Club e.V. and Berliner Segler-Verein e.V. and continues a tradition dating back to its founding in 1907.
History
Berliner Segler-Verein 1907 e.V. in its present form resulted from the merger of two traditional Berlin sailing clubs. On 9 March 2011, Havel-Club e.V. and Berliner Segler-Verein e.V. registered their amalgamation. The joint name Berliner Segler-Verein 1907 e.V. was chosen; the seat became the Havel-Club grounds at Am Großen Wannsee 36, 14109 Berlin. The traditional Berliner Segler-Verein was founded in 1907 and originally based in Grünau on the river Dahme. After the division of Berlin following the Second World War, the club lost its home waters and grounds in Berlin-Grünau. At the time of the merger it had shrunk to few members and, without grounds, could not expand on its own. Havel-Club e.V. was founded on 15 August 1972 by a group of Berlin sailors. The grounds were leased from the City of Berlin. Over the years the Havel-Club grew to more than 150 members, built its own pier, renovated the clubhouse largely through voluntary work, acquired club boats and engaged in youth sailing. The neo-classical clubhouse influenced by the English country-house style was built in 1898 by Friedenau architect Otto Hoffmann for Major Carl von Reclam and sold in 1924 to textile merchant Eugen Brasch. In 1926/27 architect Hermann Muthesius enlarged it to roughly double its volume for the Brasch family. The listed house belongs to the Alsen villa colony. After the Second World War the City of Berlin acquired the property; in 2011 BSV 1907 e.V. purchased the club grounds.

Activities
Promotion of recreational and competitive sailing, Optimist training and youth coaching in season, training camps, local and regional regattas including the Havel-Cup for Optimists, winter running and indoor sport plus theory sessions on boat building, knots, racing rules and weather.
Youth section
Active youth section with Optimist beginner training, currently about 10 club-owned Opti boats, weekly training from April to November, camps, regatta participation plus winter running and indoor sport.
